Since OSX Lion, the dscacheutil -flushcache command doesn’t seem to do anything anymore, and logging out or restarting just isn’t worth my time.
Try this instead: sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
Works for me in Lion and Mountain Lion developer preview.
One fateful day, Console stopped launching. It appeared to be in connection with one of the 10.8 developer preview releases, but the connection was hazy at best. Being a developer and running said developer preview OS, the console is a really important part of easy log viewing, for professional and for casual uses.

While playing with the Server app for OS X 10.8, I had a lot of trouble with internal exceptions. It seemed to continue to function when you chose to ignore the exception (yikes), but at least it was useable.
But after pushing changes to the local DNS module, it periodically had trouble trying to read [...]

… is “www”. When you chown or chgrp to “www”, it is curious that it actually sets it to “_www”, but don’t argue with it!
It turns out there are a whole lot of weird quirks in OS X Lion, to my intense dismay. Snow Leopard felt robust. Maybe it was missing a few things, but it was robust. Lion puts some frilly things into the mix, but now suddenly stuff gets weird. I’m disappointed.
This problem plagued me during [...]
This threw me for a while, but I figured out what was going on.
I look into my crystal ball, and I see that you have a bootlegged application from the Mac App Store. Applications purchased from the store contain a receipt file with a signature from Apple which validates the legitimacy of the item, [...]
Update: Even in Apple’s latest release of 10.7.2, I continue to observe this behavior. It doesn’t happen each and every time, which makes it even more spotty to troubleshoot.
I cannot be sure if the error arises because of the current Developer Preview of OS X Lion, or if the problem exists in any other [...]
About.me
Tim Valenta
Amateur at everything, coder, UI designer, musician, and writer. I break things apart and re-program them from scratch to learn exactly which problems people have solved in the past. I write for NaNoWriMo, and I'm nearing the self publication of a short story called Highway.
Python is my passion. Alastair Reynolds writes great science fiction, but has a really ugly website. My Mac is my Linux without all the driver failures. I hate working directly for salesmen. Huge scented candles are surprisingly nice when you work from home all day. I play AP Mid lane for my League of Legends team, but love a good run at Top.
